Question_mark Question:

Hi Sharon! My fiance and I have been together for 10 years ( we are in our early 30s). We have decided to get get married at home. We have 2 beautiful acres of property in the country. The guest list we decided to keep just our immediate family ( 18 total). If weather permits, we will have a bonfire, hot tub, and a country style buffet outside on joining picnic tables. A canoe filled with ice and beer and wine. A coffee and tea station. If weather is terrible, we can easily have the ceremony/buffet inside the house, with the garage transformed into a dance club with ipod songs on tap and requests. The problem I am having is....with our home being 20 mins out of town...how to transport our guests into town (hotel) safely after we all have been drinking? They will be wanting to all leave at different times in the night! Because this is just immediate family, I would feel badly asking another family member or friend to be designated for us when they are not invited. Help!!

Answer:

Ask the hotel if you can get free use of the hotel shuttle bus and van shuttles! Most hotels will be happy to meet your guests' needs, and you can make it easier by scheduling an early-ish pickup time for return to the hotel (such as a bit after the dessert hour,) then another run back to the hotel for remaining guests. With so few guests, it will be easy for the hotel to accommodate, depending on how many guests have booked rooms...and the concierge might even be able to arrange for free or discount town car service for your guests! If not, ask if any guests plan to be designated driver for their group or duo, and if they'd be open to taking a few more guests back to the hotel with them.
