We are dying our own flowers (as we can't find the right color), has anyone died there own flowers and if so how do you water proof them??
We can't find a floral die that looks correct either, so we are using food color, but they bleed when wet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you mind me asking what color flowers you are trying to find?

There are tints for flowers called just for flowers that you can get at a wholesale wearhouse. They come in a spray can like a paint you can mix colors over the top of each other. Pink and blue make larkspur. If you are trying to color roses I don't believe you will be successful. I would suggest that you try using a white or ivory rose and compliment with the larkspur in a tinted flowers or silk or ribbons. Thier are not many flowers in the natural color of blue.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but I found a guide to blue flowers that might help you find an alternative, if dying your own flowers doesn't work out.

I even found some blue flowers that have been preserved and dipped in gold, so you can keep your blue flowers - I found roses and orchids:

Ok, now I'm seeing blue flowers everywhere! I was just on the Better Home & Garden's website and came across an article about the 26 Top New Blue, Pink, and Purple Annuals for 2009. They had a beautiful blue flower called Nigela "Moody Blues".

Here's a link for your convenience:

I'm not sure what area you are in and how many flowers you are thinking of having. Nigella is a nice flower one of my favorites, but I can tell you to count on any annual to be in the right condition for your wedding day is more stress than I would want and I have cooler to hold them in the perfect condition. Some areas at the right time you can get this flowers and some wholesalers will get this flower in from California. I was just trying to help you. I think I have helped all I can because your first question was how to dye flowers and I answered that for you

I would be too nervous to dye my own flowers. You are a brave one. Let me know how you did it and how it turns out. I'd be curious to see the results and possibly try it myself. Thanks.
