hello ladies, my name is Bri im new here my fiance and i recently got engaged and have set a date for may 14 2011. we have decided our colors will be Tiffany blue, plum, white and a little bit of silver. Tho our wedding is in 2011,we both are big planners. My father has ask to pay for the wedding but asked us how much of a budget we need. We weren't going to have a big wedding at first but C and i just started writting down names and already its getting bigger and bigger,my mom is really excited and she too has said she will do all she can to contribute,as well as adding distant family members,My question is how have some of you come up with a budget?? i'm really not trying to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars, but i want my guest to enjoy them selves. i did a little research and i saw someone say that the average wedding cost about 30,000.00 dollars. how true that is i dont know. how have some of you saved money?? To the people that have already married if givin the chance would you spend less on certain things you thought you just have to have your in your wedding??

For anyone thats getting married in fort lauderdale florida,do you know of any ballroom reception halls? I've been browsing the internet and haven't found anything that i really loved.

MOTHER NATURE: are any of you worried about the weather,or let along aunt flow(monthly cycle)showing up on the big day?? Thats a big worry for me,am i the only one? how have some of you planned around that if your not regualr.

I set a budget with my parents and fiance, and the starting point was really a question of how much we wanted to spend on this event -- based on what we could comfortably afford and what type of wedding we want. Then we backed into the numbers for each category (e.g. venue, music, food & beverage, etc.). Since most of us DO have a budget (money certainly isn't growing on trees in this economy!), it's also helpful, I think to figure out what your priorities are. For us, we knew we wanted to be able to invite all the friends and family we wanted, have a live band, and have an open bar. But that meant that we needed to reduce our budget in other areas. There's actually a wedding vendor management tool on this site that I've used that includes a proposed budget (% allocations) as a starting point. You can find it in the "my tools" tab.

On the question of mother nature, my wedding will be inside a church and then at an estate where we'll mostly be either inside or in an attached tent. But the rehearsal dinner will be outside, and rain would definitely make the day less ideal. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and remembering that I can't control everything and that our guests and my fiance and I will have a wonderful time regardless!

Congratulations on your engagement and happy planning!!

Hi and congratulations!

Steve and I only have a short time to organise our wedding for personal reasons.(i'm not pregnant lol!) He proposed on christmas day and we are getting married this year in Sept, we dont have a budget we are just trying to do everything as cheap as possible. As I am in the UK and Steve lives in Georgia I am trying to organise our day all over the phone and by e-mail!
We are trying to concentrate on the meaning of our day as opposed to a flamboyant event, I have made my own invitations and my flowers. I also have my dress already, a gorgeous made to measure with hand beading and embroidery that would have cost £3000 new, but being thrifty it only cost me £120 second hand; it fits like a glove, not everyones choice I know but it is THE dress I knew as soon as I saw it.
We are getting married on a beautiful beach in Georgia which is free, we have hired a picnic area which will be cordoned off for us on the day and have the use of the serving shelters and seating areas, this costs only $250.
So far the biggest expense is the caterer which will cost us $45 per person, All in all the actual wedding complete will cost under $3000 for 35 guests.
I'm trying not to worry about anything, and just really believe that what will be will be; So what if it rains we will all get wet, then just have fun in years to come looking over our wedding pics lol.
For us the most important thing is being together, wether we spend $3000 or $30000 there is only one thing that is important on the day and thats pledging our love for each other.
As Lauren says its what is important to you, and alough it may be difficult with parents contributing, remember its YOUR day, and try not to spoil it with worrying about things that you really cant control.

As for the last question about monthly cycles you can control it, if you are on the contraceptive pill you will know exactly when you are due, it is advised over here that instead of having your free week you can just go straight onto the next pack which will result in you missing a cycle. Please go to your doctor for advice about this one!

Have fun and enjoy the planning,
Karen x

Hi,

I forgot to mention a tip for your rings, we are getting ours made free! My local jeweller will make our rings with scrap gold. All our friends and relatives have donated to us their broken jewellry, single earings etc. There is plenty to make the rings and enough left over to actually pay for them to be made! and as they are made especially for us we will have something unique and they also have the sentmental value. Not sure if this can be done in the U.S. but worth asking if you would like to save a few dollars.

Hello ladies thanks for the advice, karen I love the suggestion about the rings I think that's very personal and creative? Has planning long distance with your fiance difficult, christopher and I are four hours apart and it always seem so far. We where thinking of moving to americus GA. As far as the budget goes we have decided to set it as 20,000 and we will go from there if needed. I'm not into the princess type wedding I'm just looking to have a good time as for chris he likes what ever it is I like.

HI,
Long distance is a pain, mainly for the support factor we talk 4-5 times a day but nothing beats a hug! Over the last 2 years we have spent 8 months in each others company.
Steve is leaving most of the decissions to me, he says as long as i'm happy. He can do the good stuff like trying out all the cake flavours which I cant ;-(. I have left him in charge of the music though and he is visiting the beach and picnic area and taking pics to help me out.
I absolutly love GA, after we are married Steve will come over to the UK and we will live here for a few years then go back and live over there. Such a big step for both of us but i can't wait

Thats is so sweet, its not so easy for us to be together with a 9 hour flight between us lol. But we try to do little things to make each other smile, yesterday we said goodnight, 30 mins later he called back just to say he loved me. He is always doing things like that. I dont think we have ever had an argument, maybe thats a bad thing!

Wherever we decide to end up living we have the added pressure of visa's I'm just not thinking about that yet. Where in GA are you hoping to live?
