Question_mark Question:

My fiance wants olive as the wedding color -- what other colors coordinate with olive?

Answer:

You're in luck! Every hue in the green family is super-trendy for weddings...from light sage to a deep hunter, and a lot of decor options using a range of greenery can save you a fortune on your florals. Even calla lilies come in shades of green, which is a very elegant look.

You can pair olive with any number of colors, all depending on the season of your wedding. For spring and summer, you may want to go with brights such as yellows and oranges, or you might want to go traditional with whites and creams.

For fall and winter, an olive color base will coordinate nicely with creams and burgundies.

It helps to look at wonderful pictures online, using the greens of bouquet or centerpiece images to help you envision how different colors will go with the olive color your fiance wants. For instance, you might see a beautiful red bouquet filled with olive-toned greenery that can show you what your *tabletop* decor would look like with a red tablecloth and red flowers in the centerpiece, with olive green leaves, moss and branches in the centerpieces.

Bridesmaids say they love wearing shades of green as their dresses, since that's a color they'll likely wear again in the future, depending on their skin tone.

I like to go to Home Depot and pick out those strips of paint color samples, so that I can see what different hues of cream or red or yellow will go with a green -- even a range of oranges is fantastic for a spring, summer or fall wedding! Collect up those strips for your own consideration and then use them to show your wedding vendors, such as your floral designer.

Congrats on your wedding plans! It sounds like it's going to be lovely!

Comment From Kristin at Wedding Mapper:
I love peach or pink with orange. If you do olive ties on the groomsmen you could do olive dresses with peach sashes on the bridesmaids. For flowers you obviously have the green color accounted for but then you can have the peach/orange/pink shades of flowers mixed in with ivory. It could be really pretty actually! Good luck.
