Question_mark Question:

Hello Sharon,

My daughter is getting married in CA in a few weeks. It is a casual, but sophisticated wedding and is outdoors. Her bridesmaids are wearing baby blue, that's all I know. I don't know what to purchase. My daughter says she purchased a high dollar "cotton" gown.

Do you have any suggestions??

Thank you.

Answer:

With such a short time til the wedding, invite the bride to help you go through the dress selections on department store websites, or even at a department store [you can have lunch afterward!!] to choose the perfect color and style that makes *you* look and feel terrific. Do some pre-research online at Macys.com, bloomingdales.com, lordandtaylor.com and other popular sites, and if you pick up your dress at the stores you don't have to pay for shipping. you'll also have time to get your dress altered -- and many top department stores like Bloomie's will alter your dress for free!! The idea is to giveyourself enough time for alterations, so that your dress suits you perfectly!!

Talk to the bride about the type of dress she wants you to wear, especially the length because the mothers should match in dress length so that everyone shares the same formality in person and in photos. She'll love helping you choose your dress. Just be sure to have ideas in mind so that you're not spending all day at the mall, not able to make a decision, because the bride doesn't have a lot of time for that. And if you're at the mall on your own, make it easy on yourself and call the department store's personal stylist service -- you tell them what you want, a pro stylist pulls pretty dresses from the racks for you and has them waiting in a great dressing room, they help you try on dresses and pair with shoes and accessories, and it's FREE -- if you buy they get a commission. It's great VIP treatment and can make you feel fantastic about having a pro opinion about your wedding day outfit!!
