Question_mark Question:

Hi Sharon,
My ideal wedding is a winter wedding (Februay). I want a winter wonderland theme. For colors I'm thinking light blue and a deep purple. Is that a good choice for colors or am I going way off my theme? Also, I've been racking my brain and going to so many websites for a venue. Since we're going with the winter wonderland, we want some place that will reflect winter. So we're thinking somewhere with a nice fire place to creat a comfy winter environement...any ideas to help me out?
Thanks
Melissa

Answer:

Hi Melissa!
Wow, it sounds like you're in great shape with your winter wedding ideas, and you're right that a site with a fireplace would be a wonderful setting for your wedding. Decide between formal and elegant winter, such as a ballroom with marble pedestals and that big fireplace, or winter rustic chic like a ski lodge with lots of wood beams overhead, comfy couches, the fireplace...something that says 'top-notch ski resort.' I would loook online at bunches 5-star ski resorts on TravelandLeisure.com to find their websites and look at their common areas, lobbies, ballrooms even the guest rooms to get inspiration. I stayed at a winter ski lodge and it was soooo cute and comfy. Looking at these sites will give you design inspiration in the rustic/casual category.

Blue and jewel-toned purple [not lilacs and light purples] would be an amazing look suitable for the modern, stylish winter wedding. Red and white is more Valentine's Day, and light blue and silver is nice for an iced theme with a range of blues from light to deep sapphire. So look at jewel tones and hold paint color strips together at Home Depot to really see how different colors blend up together. Thinking about blue and purple, I'd add in lots of clear crystal and light blue crystal for that icy theme, silver table decor like candelabras and centerpieces, and lots of glass in the form of an elevated platform for the cake and for buffet or station items.

Love where you're going with your plans and I'd love to keep helping you with ideas if you'd like!!
