Expert Advice from wedding guru, Sharon Naylor
Question:
Hi Sharon! I am unsure whether I can have the venue of choice due to budget restrictions. My secondary option is using a venue that would require me to provide all of the chairs, tables, lighting, etc. How do rentals work? Do they set up for you, or do you have to do it yourself? Thank you so much for your time. I greatly appreciate it.
Answer:
I'm glad you asked this question...rentals can cost a *lot* when you add in all of the extra things that need to be rented for a wedding [serving platters, lots of utensils and glasses and plates, buffet tables, etc.] so check the price lists of what your rental agency offers, and keep in mind that your guests will need multiple plates for the cocktail party and dinner, multiple glasses, etc.
When you rent items, they're most often delivered, and then you have to set everything up yourself...unless you book your wedding at a site that offers setup and cleanup service with your rented items provided. That's pretty rare, but you might find that your site provides that. Keep in mind the extra work as well as the extra cost...will you have volunteers who can take care of all of this, as well as collect up all the rented items, put them back in their cases, and get them returned by the return deadline?
If this sounds scary, just check out additional reception locations that have everything you'll need!
