Expert Advice from wedding guru, Sharon Naylor
Question:
I am planning a winter wedding in south Florida. The bridesmaid dresses are navy blue and I do not know what color of tux would complement their dresses? I originally picked grey but it is a lighter grey which I'm understanding does not match the dark navy dress. HELP!
Answer:
Lighter gray actually looks really nice with navy blue -- as does a darker gray, called charcoal. Here's a little secret that I use when trying to coordinate men's and women's wardrobes: go to the men's department at Macy's, Lord & Taylor or other department stores and look at how the stylists have arranged the *mannequins* as far as suit jackets, shirts and ties! Especially in the ties section -- one of my favorite color inspiration spots -- you'll see how navy blue is paired fabulously with different shades of gray, and other complementary colors. Don't forget that a different shade, such as a lighter blue, can be coordinated between men and women by having the bridesmaids carry some light blue flowers in their bouquets and the men can wear a similar light blue flower on their lapel. I worry about doing light blue ties and vests, since that can sometimes look very prom-like, but you might have a totally different opinion when you see the dark gray suit with the lighter blue tie and vest. A walk through fashion sections of department stores give you a LOT more inspiration than you'll often find at a tux shop. Then, just take pictures with your cell phone so that you can show the tux shop director exactly what you'd like!
