Expert Advice from wedding guru, Sharon Naylor
Question:
My fiance and I live in NC. We have decided to have a civil ceremony here at our local magistrate's office and "eloping" to Europe. We didn't want to go through the legalities of getting legally married in Europe. So, we will take care of that here, and have our ceremony there. Can you recommend some inexpensive places to have a ceremony in Italy, France or Netherlands? It will just be the 2 of us, so something simple and romantic would be ideal.
Answer:
I don't have any personal contacts in those areas, but I suggest that for any overseas sites or vendors, that you work through a local wedding coordinator who *does* have ties to a vast network of overseas places and experts. Search at www.bridalassn.com (The Association of Bridal Consultants) and at www.ises.com (The International Special Events Society), both of which have members who DO WEDDINGS OVERSEAS THEMSELVES! Some are specialists in those regions, and these associations attract international experts as well. It's a great investment in finding true professionals who can help you navigate the various legalities, help you avoid common pitfalls and help you time everything and work your plans well. Good luck!!
