Question_mark Question:

Hi Sharon! We've been to a few bridal shows, where we met a bunch of wedding vendors. I really liked a florist that we saw there, but my fiance says the wedding experts who pay to appear at these things are beginners, that if they were any good, they'd be booked solid and wouldn't need to appear at bridal shows. Is this true? Thanks so much for your help! We love your books -- they've been a big help.

Answer:

Hello Shelly!

That's a common misconception, and I'm so glad you brought up this topic. While it's true that some beginning wedding vendors go to bridal shows to drum up business (and many of those are excellent, talented pros!), you shouldn't think less of any established vendors who make it a regular part of their marketing plan to go to shows, shake hands, meet prospective clients face-to-face. In fact, some of the most successful and highly regarded wedding experts wouldn't miss a show on the expo circuit! So just because they're there doesn't mean they're not in demand. They might just love the meet-and-greet aspect of these shows.

The best way to tell if a vendor is top-notch is to check out reviews on this site, talk to your friends, meet with the vendor at a free consultation, examine the vibe you get from them, inspect their wedding package details and contract...basically really check them out, because each vendor represents an important investment in the success of your day.

I hope that florist you liked measures up to your high standards when you meet for a free consultation! And congratulations on your engagement!
