Question_mark Question:

I am on an EXTREMELY tight budget. I am at the point where I hate the beach destination I've chosen & am now attempting to see what/if the hotel that I have blocked rooms from is offering me: a Friday night wedding, but I wouldn't be able to afford the reception so I asked her, since it will be at night, guest can grab a bite, than come to the wedding & just have cocktails & hour with hot & cold hors D'oeuvers & Dancing...is that horrible?
Please Help Me...
Josephine

Answer:

Hi Josephine:

I need a little bit more information...where is the destination wedding? Are guests going to be flying there, or driving? It makes a difference, since wedding hosts really need to feed guests who have gone through a lot to get there.

In any case, can you talk to your site caterer about adding more to the cocktail party? It's become quiet common at receptions - especially these days - to skip the big sit-down dinner reception and just offer a terrific cocktail party with a lot of inexpensive options that have been prepared to look more exotic -- such as pasta with a great gourmet sauce, five or six passed hors d'oeuvres, a great grilled veggie platter, a hummus station [very hot right now, and super-inexpensive!] Chefs love to get creative with lower-budget items, and no one will miss the raw seafood bar!!

Don't forget to budget for breakfast for your guests the next day. It's considered a big faux pas not to offer one, and again your site caterer can help you work out a special price for your guests' breakfast. The experts are more than willing to help you when you're on a budget!

Let me know if I can help more...
