Expert Advice from wedding guru, Sharon Naylor
Question:
Can you put tulips and lilacs together in a bouquet?
Answer:
Yes, absolutely! It's a great spring look, dependent on the size dimensions your floral designer (or you) finds to work best. Some varieties of tulips are enormous, and some are miniature. So decide if you want a bouquet that has flowers in roughly the same size, or if you want a few larger, more dramatic blooms extending out.
Color is also a big factor -- do you want lavender tulips, white or yellow? Pink? Lilacs come in a range of purples from light to dark, so think about the color range you'd like in your bouquet. As a little industry secret, go to the paint section of Home Depot and grab a bunch of those paint color strips so that you can show your floral designer -- or figure out for your own DIY project -- the exact color blending you want. It's also a gorgeous, traditional look to use white tulips, other small filler white flowers like stock, and lilacs as accents.
Look at plenty of flower pix online as well to get examples of what you want. The bridal websites have a lot of galleries of all-white flowers, for instance, that can help you choose a third filler flower to give your bouquet more depth.
Good luck! And great question!
